The math works like this: multiply each course's grade point by its credits to get "grade points," add those up across all courses, then divide by the total number of credits. So a student who aces a heavy five-credit course but stumbles in a light one-credit elective will still come out with a strong GPA — the big course pulls more weight. One of the most common headaches for students is converting between systems — a 10-point CGPA in India, a 4.0 GPA in the US, or a percentage elsewhere. A rough and widely used approximation converts a 10-point CGPA to a percentage by multiplying by around 9.5, though your specific university may publish its own conversion.
